What to Remember After an Audition
If you've taken an audition, you probably had this thought—was my 8 weeks of intense preparation worth it?
After an audition, it's common to feel disappointment, loss of motivation, and even a bit of depression.
But before you sink too far, let's look at the facts—what parts of yourself did you have to rely on to take an audition?
Courage: It takes a lot of bravery to appear on that stage and put yourself on the line.
Discipline: It took many hours of analyzing and practicing those excerpts and concertos until you could play them to the best of your ability.
Commitment: Despite the difficulty and moments of self-doubt, you pushed through and prepared as best you could.
As you look back, recognize all the strides you made. You are undoubtedly a stronger player than you were before your audition. Not only are you even better acquainted with the repertoire, but you have stretched your personal mental and emotional endurance capabilities.
You have grown in all areas of your life.
Auditions are brutal. But it is only through accepting challenges in our life, personal and professional, that we experience real progress.
So next time you're feeling dejected about the outcome, switch gears and give yourself props for all that you have accomplished!
And also, take the day off. ;-)
Happy resting!
