IT’S MENTAL

Have you ever played an audition you thought you prepared well for, but:

  • You got onstage and blanked.

  • The voice in your head distracted you.

  • You couldn’t focus on the music.

  • You sound great in the practice room, but it doesn’t come together onstage.

The 360 Method will help you move past old patterns and fears so you can play your very best.

Working with Gloria was an invaluable experience. Not only did she provide practical advice about excerpts and audition preparation, she took a highly individualized approach to mentorship and helped me achieve my personal career goals.

IT’S TECHNICAL

Do you feel overwhelmed when you look at the excerpt list, wondering where to even begin?

Sometimes it’s a matter of knowing exactly what and how to practice.

Do you know:

  • The right tempos?

  • The right style?

  • The right sound?

  • The best way to practice intonation?

  • The different ways to use a metronome?

The 360 Method covers all of this.

I know what the audition committee is listening for, and I know what you need to do to be completely prepared.

Additionally, my library of excerpt videos supports you long after our work together is done. The videos will be your “secret weapon” for every audition you take, throughout your career.

Tell Me More

Gloria has such a wealth of knowledge — not just about practical fingerings and bowings for orchestral excerpts, but also about what it takes to maintain a full and fulfilling career as an orchestral cellist.

IT’S ARTISTIC

Playing an audition is not about perfection. You need show your mastery of the instrument, but an audition committee is really looking for a complete musician.

It’s not just about technique—you need a sense of imagination and artistic expression so you stand out in a crowded field.

The 360 Method™ will help you:

  • Expand your imagination

  • Understand the difference between good and great

  • Infuse your playing with artistry

Let's Talk
To say I came out of this program a better cellist would be a vast understatement. I didn’t even know my mind and body could work together as well as they do now thanks to Gloria. This program helped me open my mind to possibilities I thought were not realistic.

HOW WOULD IT FEEL?

  • To know you can play your very best at your next audition or performance?

  • If your mental, technical, and artistic preparation was absolute?

  • If you could approach the audition with calm and confidence?

  • If you could walk off that stage knowing that you left it all out there and had no regrets about how you played?

  • To know that your audition connected in every way with the committee or audience?

I really love talking to cellists about their goals. Let’s talk and see if the 360 Method is right for you.

Let's Connect
I would describe the program as one-on-one guidance throughout the process, perfecting your skills, pushing you with the unexpected, and mental preparation. You have a coach/therapist there to guide you every step of the way.

FAQ’s

  • Yes. All sessions are conducted via Zoom. A Wifi connection of at least 1.5 MBPS is needed. A hardwired or ethernet connection is preferred. An external USB mic is required for optimum sound.

  • We will be meeting twice a week for two hours. One session is for new training and the other is for office hours where you can bring your questions and work on specific issues.

For the first time, I'm grouping the weeks we work together so we have four weeks "on" and one week "off," enabling participants to review the material and catchup as needed.

  • That’s okay. All Zoom sessions are recorded and available online. Additionally, you have access to my video library anytime you need, including when the course is done.

  • The investment for this program is $5000. Remember—we’ll cover more audition-specific information than most four-year college degrees.

Consider the cost of NOT participating—how many years, how many plane tickets, how many hours of practice will you waste before you finally connect all the pieces of the audition puzzle?

  • In order to give the most individualized attention to each participant, there will only be six spots available.

Studying with Gloria Lum through her Audition Confidential program has been the most valuable cello and audition learning experience I have had. Gloria pushed me to better my audition preparation to a new level, which led me to win my very first professional orchestra audition. I would highly suggest any cellist who is preparing for an audition to study with Gloria Lum. Her insight into the audition process, as well as her skills in teaching are unlike any other cellist I’ve experienced.
— RYAN DOERR, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL CELLIST, DES MOINES SYMPHONY
