What to Ask Yourself to Win an Audition

A new year brings new goals. So let me ask you honestly:
How serious are you about winning an orchestra audition this year?

Winning takes real work—time, commitment, and daily dedication. There’s no shortcut.

If you want to win an audition, read that again.

If you’re not ready for that level of preparation, that’s okay. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you continue to find value in my emails and Instagram reels.

But if you are serious about getting a job and becoming a fully realized player in 2026, ask yourself:

  • How old am I?

  • How much time do I have to win an orchestra job?

  • How many auditions will I get a chance to take?

  • How long will it take before I feel confident at every audition?

  • Do I actually know how to win an audition?

No platitudes here. Preparing at a winning level is hard, stressful, and demanding.

So why do it? Because if you don’t, you won’t win a job. Period.
